About Biomaterials
Biomaterials are biocompatible materials, natural or man-made, that comprise a whole or a part of a living structure or biomedical device that performs, augments, or replaces a natural function. Biomaterials are most often engineered for medical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical applications.
Biomaterials include hydroappatite, cadaver bone, wound dressing materials, drug delivery vehicles, transdermal films, and titanium, bioceramics. Applications for biomaterials may include dental implants, dental fillings, dental caps and bridges, surgical instruments, stents, blood bags, intravenous tubing, prostheses, and artificial limbs.
